Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere faces another injury setback as his manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he will not be fit in time for the start of the new season.
The 20 year old missed the entirety of last year’s campaign with a series of chronic ankle and knee problems the first of which were sustained just over a year ago in a preseason warm up game against New York Red Bulls. Although desperate to return to Premier League action later this month for the kick off of the new season, Wenger has suggested October as a more realistic return date for the young midfielder.
The player, who when fit was a key member of the Arsenal midfield and a regular starter for the England team despite his young age, has received counsel from a number of sources.
Arsenal club legend Thierry Henry has expressed his sympathy and his admiration for the talented youngster’s ability.
“You want Wilshere around” said the 34 year old Frenchman. “He reminds me of when I first arrived when the old guard was there. He’s an Arsenal fan in the first place and you need this type of player around in the dressing room.”
“I just wish him all the best that he can come back quick and wear the shirt he loves so much.”
Further words of support have come from former West Ham striker Dean Ashton, who was similarly considered a great prospect for both the Premier League and the national side, but for whom a succession of serious injuries ultimately proved too much, forcing him to retire at the age of 26.
“It’s a lonely place when you are out for so long,” said the former Norwich and Crewe man.
“You try your best to stay involved, but it’s hard to watch your team-mates train and play. Coping with the setbacks is very difficult as well. You get so close to playing and it can be tough to find the enthusiasm to go through it all again.”
Arsenal will be desperate for this to be the last of Wilshere’s injury woes to prevent his career going the same way as the unfortunate Ashton’s.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he does not know when star midfielder Jack Wilshere will return from his injury troubles. The England midfielder has been out of the first team action for more than a year now. He was initially expected to come back from his knee operation in January, but a stress fracture has meant that his return had to be postponed. Many expected him to return in time for the start of the Euro 2012, but now he has not only missed the European Championships, but also the London Olympics 2012 as well.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the start of the pre-season, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has cast a cloud of doubt over the future of Jack Wilshere by saying that he does not know when his star midfielder will return from his injury problems. The presence of Jack Wilshere was expected to soften the blow of the exit of Cesc Fabregas from the club, but since then, the club has seen very little out of the starlet. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in English football right now. Wenger, though, has confirmed that he is making progress in his attempt to recover from the injury.
“I am positive but a bit cautious because we had so much disappointing news with him. Everybody in the medical department says to me he’s doing very well. He is still in the gym. Any player still in the gym in July is not on the pitch in August, that is for sure. I don’t want to give him any precise deadline because that would put him under huge pressure,” said Arsene Wenger while on the pre-season tour in Asia. Arsenal have put a £ 30 million pricetag on the star striker Robin van Persie.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will definitely not be taking part in the London Olympics 2012 according to Team GB manager Stuart Pearce. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been highly critical of the decision to include Jack Wilshere in the preliminary squad for the London Olympics 2012. Arsenal have powers only to stop players above the age of 23 from going to the Olympics tournament according to the FIFA rules. The 20-year-old Jack Wilshere has not played for the club since the end of last season when he injured his knee. He suffered a major setback back in January in his attempts to come back as soon as possible.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently confirmed that he expects Jack Wilshere to be back in the Arsenal first team only in the first few weeks of the new season. This would effectively ruled him out of the London Olympics 2012, which is being viewed as a major opportunity for Team GB to stake a claim in the history. A number of high profile players like Ryan Giggs and David Beckham have also expressed their desire to be part of the team as one among the three overage players who can be allowed to play for the teams.
Wenger has repeatedly stated that the pre-season will be a crucial aspect in helping Jack Wilshere reaching his full fitness after being out with an injury for such a long time. Stuart Pearce will be confirming the final squad for the London Olympics 2012 on July 6. It is highly unlikely that Jack Wilshere will make it into first team action by then. He has already missed out on the chance to participate at the Europe 2012, which was expected to bring the best out of him. Wenger, though expects Wilshere to be fit for the new season.
