Wilshere Keen on Proving Fitness
Jack Wilshere has opened up on the surprise loan move to Bournemouth by saying that it is all about proving his quality. The Arsenal midfielder is a regular for England, but staying fit has been one of the biggest problems for the player.
Despite having made his Arsenal debut back in the 2008-09 season, he has made only 160 appearances for the gunners in nine seasons. Averaging less than 20 games per season is not good even for a player with Wilshere’s quality and Arsene Wenger has decided to try out another loan move for the player.
Wilshere spent a season on loan at Bolton before becoming an established player at Arsenal. His best season at Arsenal till date was the 2010-11 campaign when he made 49 appearances in all competitions. Despite being only 24, he has already racked up 34 appearances for England. Wilshere admitted that one of his biggest concerns was fitness and he is very keen on showing that he can play 50 games per campaign. Even Wenger admitted that Wilshere’s loan move was not about proving quality, but managing to play regularly over the course of a campaign. Over the years, Wilshere has had also numerous off the field issues after being caught smoking a number of times.
“If there is any question mark about me, I know it’s about my fitness. Hopefully I can play as many games as possible, prove everyone wrong and then [reignite] my career. I was happy to come on and was sitting on the bench watching and getting used to the way they play. It’s similar to the way we played at Arsenal. They like to keep the ball and I can fit into this team, I think,” said Wilshere about the loan move to a club expected to be in the relegation fight.
